Stephen Harper loves Canada more than you

In a new advert, the Prime Minister asks you to think about how cool those F-35s will look during ceremonial fly-overs.

You must be confused it is the Liberals who stomped on G.W.B. doll. It is the left who fear monger Canada won't survive if we did NAFTA and now the perimeter deal.

The left love to bash Americans when Republicans are in charge. Democrats controlled all three branches until the November 2010.

Michael Wilson says sovereignty is at issue. Michael Wilson, for God' sake. Is he not Conservative enough for you.

Impressive list. Do you or M.W. have advance copies of the signed deal?

Sounds like some people like to suck and blow at the same time.

I have ZERO problem with working more closely to improve our movement of goods and people across the border. I have confidence our civil servants and diplomats will negotiate a fair deal. I don't fear Americans that's the dogma in the liberal-left.

Another ad that might be supported by a heavy rotation on our airwaves.

The Liberal crickets= no money, no ads, since 2004 they have not fixed or close the funding gap. Why can't they find donors after Bay Street was eliminated?

    • MostlyCivil

"Why can't they find donors after Bay Street was eliminated?"

It's hard to introduce wedge legislation from the opposition benches.

  • TimesArrow

I've said elsewhere that i think it's a good ad in the sense it's effective and NOT for once negative. That said, the more you watch it the more it begins to grate. Does this guy do anything that is not in some way personalized – be it negative or positive?

    • Gayle

I agree with this. On the surface there is nothing wrong with the ad. Personally, I am not a fan of someone who trots out his young children as election props, which Harper does every time, but that is a personal preference. I would not like it if anyone else did that either.

Still, the ad is much better than the silly attack ads and the sweater ads.

I have to say I found that whole "doesn't matter who you know" thing funny. I suppose that is because they lampoon Ignatieff mercilessly for what he has accomplished, who he knows and where he comes from. I guess what they mean is it does not matter where you come from – unless you are an intellect and your family has strong roots to the establishment in this country. If that is you then you are aloof and out of touch.

      • MostlyCivil

Not enough baby kissing. That's the real issue with this ad.

Why does Harper hate the babies?

  • Matlock

"Would you include in any definition of a coalition one opposition party merely voting for a government's legislation? Because that's the definition that Wherry and other knee-jerk types have been using."

    If you say so.

"Now, it might be in reply to Harper's invocation of the term at every chance. But what these knee-jerk types don't seem to understand is that Harper never has formed a coalition. They then bring up the 2004 letter, which offers up no coalition, of course."

    If you say so.

    • http://secondthots.blogspot.com Dennis_F

Yes, I say so. Thank you.

  • wilson

I dare the LPC to put out an ad, using the voice of Ignatieff.

    • OriginalEmily1

      ?? They already have.

Harper just sounds tired in this ad.

      • wilson

Oh, you mean that ad from the Enchanted Forest, yes, I forgot about that one.

That's not fatigue, that's confidence, humility and calm.

        • OriginalEmily1

No, that's just being tired. He doesn't really believe any of those things, Harper's just checking off a list.

I don't recall any 'Enchanted Forest' ads….but then I don't believe in unicorns either.

Libs have put out numerous ads with Ignatieff speaking.

          • EmiLie

"Libs have put out numerous ads with Ignatieff speaking. "

            Lie. They released one

          • OriginalEmily1

Hey, I don't expect YOU to keep up.

          • wilson

            Coyne called it 'Narnia'.

    • tdotlib

While we're at it, let's make sure that there are lots of shots of him nodding, staring solemnly and hangin' with his kids! Oh – and fighter jets – we need fighter jets in these ads!

      • MostlyCivil

That first shot with the PM in the hardhat and the white hair? Thought it was Dion. 32 seconds in.

  • McC_

lame but not offensive = an improvement to my eyes.

  • tedbetts

Much better from Harper. Still all image and no substance at all and they steer as far away from their policies and plans and record (don't blame them).

When he said all that about Canada and "the best is yet to come" though, I did wonder whether he was talking about "one Canada or two Canadas or several Canadas. Anyone know? I guess he did admit that he thinks that is all not important and "secondary".

Stephen Harper: "Whether Canada ends up as one national government or two national governments or several national governments, or some other kind of arrangement is, quite frankly, secondary in my opinion… And whether Canada ends up with one national government or two governments or ten governments, the Canadian people will require less government no matter what the constitutional status or arrangement of any future country may be."

  • TimesArrow

Agreed…although it may be just my age, but is it really lame?
