Three and a half hours to go

by Aaron Wherry on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 12:35pm - 12 Comments

While Pat Martin seems to think there’s going to be an election, the Canadian Press reports the government side has reached out to the NDP.

An NDP source says party finance critic Thomas Mulcair and deputy critic Chris Charlton have been invited to meet early this afternoon with junior finance minister Ted Menzies. The meeting was described as important by the Tories and was to take place at the beginning of the traditional briefing the political parties get on the budget details starting at 1pm. Neither the Liberals nor the Bloc Quebecois had been called to similar meetings and sources says that for the first time the parties have been allotted separate rooms to receive their usual budget briefings.

separate rooms how appropriate. I love budgets when you have a minority gov't especially when Harper is PM – no doubt about it – watching the dynamics of the up and coming future leaders in the opposition is a sight ot behold – Mulcair right now in the NDP forging ahead – I wonder who will really stand out against Iggy in the LPT maybe Bobby R. .. he isn't get any younger hahahaha! … and the leaders oh my god the hypocrisy overfloweth – I can't wait for the twisting in the wind we are about to witness – should be a sight to behold no doubt !

"…sources says that for the first time the parties have been allotted separate rooms to receive their usual budget briefings."

Sounds like someone's a bit paranoid.

      sounds like a coalition!

'three and half hours to go' should read 'twenty four hours to go ……. I wanna be sedated …. hurry hurry hurry before I go insane'.

I am really not looking forward to the next 24-48 hours of will he/won't he speculation about Layton and supporting budget.

You'd think that Jack might have discouraged Pat Martin from setting himself ablaze in the Committee room if he was intending to cut a deal all along. It's a little incongruous when the NDP position is both a) "These people are abhorrent" via Pat Martin and b) "We can work with these guys" via Jack Layton.

It's ok, no one listens to Pat Martin anymore

        If only that were true.

    • Mike T.

In a world where Harper can say with a straight face "we never said anything bad about Iggy's family" this can't really even be described as a quibble.

Apropos of Wherry's headline, I was reminded of this:

Layton should come out with something big or tell Harper to get lost. Settling for peanuts won't do.

    • LdKitchenersOwn

Do you think they'd throw in peanuts!?!?!
