Greetings from Montreal, where Jack Layton just promised to end oil subsidies and redirect the funding to clean energy sources.

The party has also released the following new spot.

“Stephen Harper is handing billions to oil companies developing Canada’s dirtiest energy sources, like the tar sands. As Prime Minister, I’ll cancel his dirty fuels subsidy and put that money into clean energy solutions instead,” Layton said.

The Liberals are stealing the NDP platforms, so Jack steals the Greens, lol!!!

    This is just stupid.

No party has a monopoly on wise public policy, and parties have been adopting/co-opting each other's best policies since parties first evolved in parliamentary democracies. For example, many (perhaps most) established social programs in Canada were first promulgated by the CCF/NDP, who've never held office.

      Why stupid?

NDP has been talking about "Corporate Welfare Bums" since the days of David Lewis and Tommy Douglas, so it's hardly stealing from the Greens.

Do you favour subsidizing oil and gas exploration and development? I know why oil companies want it, but it's hard to understand why anyone else would given that the companies have the opportunity to reinvest their record profits and make even more money from $100+ a barrel prices. Why would we even want to encourage speedy liquidation of a finite natural resource rather than spreading jobs and resource revenues over a longer period?

As an Albertan, I say stop all subsidies to the greedy foreign corporations who have been getting our resources far too cheaply for decades.

Good ad. And good point about the tar sands too…they don't need subsidies and tax breaks. Why not redirect that money to green energy and the jobs it creates outside of the oil patch?

    adorable.
