The MP for Berthier-Maskinonge visits her constituents.

According to participants in one meeting, she insisted on struggling along in the language of her constituents — speaking in French even when they addressed her in English. ”It’s not bad — she has an accent but at least she speaks French,” said another resident, Daniel Ringuette. He said he’s just happy she finally visited the riding: “I even invited her to come play tennis with us,” he said…

“She speaks French so well, it’s surprising,” said Louiseville mayor Guy Richard, after their meeting. “I think we will have a very good MP.”

I tell you, she takes the riding again in 2015.

The key to success in politics is lowered expectations.

What you need to do is get the people who voted for you to feel guilty about it.  Then, they get mad that they’re made to feel guilty about it and when you give them a reason to rise to your  defence (like visit them) they become impassioned supporters.  Uh, which I guess is lowered expectations with a twist.

After hearing her interview on TVA Nouvelles, I can say that she “struggles” no more than most other primarily anglophone politicians or public servants. I’m guessing she speaks at a PSC “C” level most likely, and at worst a very high “B”.

Looks like those intense, round-the-clock tutoring sessions by dedicated NDP volunteers have been paying off. After a few more months of this, they may even allow her some unaccompanied visits.

Now now, let’s not get ahead of ourselves :)

The one thing we can all agree on is that she will have perhaps the most managed political career in the history of the NDP party, at least for the first few months.

But she’s got four years to win the votes of her constituents, and she’s undergone a trial by fire before the house even sat, and comes out smiling. This girl is going to be around for a while, me thinks.

Look at her! 50% of her riding wouldn’t care if she only knew how to say “Uh oh! Hotdog! Beep Beep!” in broken Korean.

Did the NDP put that on her bio page, too?

You guys do realize that this isn’t page 3 of the Sun, right?
