'Afghanistan is no longer a threat to the world'

by Aaron Wherry on Monday, May 30, 2011 3:22pm - 13 Comments

Stephen Harper visits Afghanistan.

“The biggest single success of this mission, and this is the big picture: We came to Afghanistan, the world came to Afghanistan, because Afghanistan had become such a terrible and brutal place that it had become a threat to the entire world. And whatever the challenges and the troubles that remain, Afghanistan is no longer a threat to the world.”

He added: “Afghanistan is still a violent place, a dangerous place for its citizens, and we’re working to improve things for them. But this country does not represent a geo-strategic risk to the world. It is no longer a source of global terrorism. This is a tremendous accomplishment, one that obviously serves Canadian interests.”

“And whatever the challenges and the troubles that remain, Afghanistan is no longer a threat to the world.”

Harper forgot a few words, I think.

Harper could have added that Afghan was no longer a threat because the nutters and mad mullahs have moved to Pakistan. The western world’s foreign policy seems an awful lot like whack-a-mole to me.

And your brilliant foreign policy plan would be…

I belong to rubble don’t make trouble school of thought.

Send in Marines and remove Syria, Iran, Saudi regimes and see what happens. I am not a fan of the current maintain stability in Middle East policy we have in West.

I would also create Colonial Office for proper colonizing of third world failed states – I think it will take decades to turn Afghan around and who knows how much harder we are making it for ourselves when we do it half-assed manner.

War is not foreign policy….war is the result of bad foreign policy.

This is whack-a-mole. Moving global terrorism out of Afghanistan doesn’t do much if there are other failed or weak states that welcome or cannot prevent terrorists from operating within their borders.

    Well.. he’s not wrong.
Just one question, Mr. Harper.. why’d it take you 8 years to figure this out?

He’s not only wrong, he’s delusional.
