Ottawa cracking down on citizen scofflaws

Government plans to strip 1,800 of citizenship

After a lengthy investigation involving police and the ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, the federal government now believes as many as 1,800 people in this country obtained their citizenship through fraudulent means. Letters have gone out to hundreds informing them the government now plans to revoke their status as Canadians. Individuals can challenge the rulings in federal court. If those efforts fail, cabinet will void their passports and strip them of their citizenship.

Will these people become stateless? I presume many of these individuals have revoked their previous citizenship. Where are we going to dump them?

Don’t the Conservatives have any other way to attract attention?

I am a New Canadian from Europe. I am waiting for someone to speak up and talk about immigration laws and the reality. Canada WANTS 250.000 immigrants every year. Also the Harper government does. At the same time, they try to build a reputation by “cracking down” on an immigration issue. Talk about political distraction! It is said to see how so many intelligent Canadians buy into this story as being the main issue in immigration. It is not. There are many other issues inside the immigration department which several class action lawsuits by top immigration lawyers against the government clearly show.

Fueling the negative emotions of a people will only lead to hatred. This leads to racism and discrimination that so many Western European countries are experiencing.

Canadians urgently need to learn to think critically, independently and not only believe what the media tell them. It might+ be true but it for sure is always only a small section of the truth, presented in a way that people’s fears and emotions are being manipulated.

The several undemocratic things the Harper cabinet has done in the recent past, obviously need to be covered by drawing peoples’ attention to an issue where they can get emotional. Then they’ll forget the other unpleasant parts of reality. This is cheap populism.

Last year they were trying to convince us shiploads of Tamils were coming to attack !

Then it was an uproar how refugees fleeing for their lives didn’t have time to make out the paperwork and get in line.

Yet, as you say, we want immigrants….it’s never made sense the way Cons handle it.

Does anything they do make sense?

I’m still waiting for an example of it.

Not that I’ve noticed….they’re all over the map.  Contradictory things, major U-turns, reversals on a dime,  talk with no action,  candy-scattering….but no framework, no consistency, no actual workable policies…no direction.

            LOL

            Pretty much sums it up!
