Canadians, long stereotyped as hewers of wood and shippers of oil, may now have another export industry to brag of. Farmers in China, according to this Globe story, are going gaga for Grade-A Canadian bull semen. About $3.3 million worth of the stuff was sent over the Pacific in 2010 alone, helping create better breeds of next-generation Chinese cattle. The Chinese aren’t the only ones in the Canadian dairy bull semen business, though. About 20 per cent of the world market is Canadian, according to Agriculture Canada.
