The Newsroom has already been discussed so much that it feels like it’s already been on for five years and had its Museum of Radio and Television retrospective. But here’s something more entertaining: a compilation of repeated lines and ideas from previous Aaron Sorkin scripts. I have my issues with the guy, but this makes me like him better (and it could only have been compiled by a fan). Repeating certain lines or concepts is a traditional part of a strong screenwriting style, or the work of a very stylized fiction writer like P.G. Wodehouse, who repeated certain phrases, similes and jokes almost every other book. And they’re fine with me as long as the repetitions don’t stick out too much. And since most of these are extremely successful projects where the repetitions didn’t seem to be out of place or out of character, I say go for it.
