This may end the rumours about Kennedy coming to Canada
Another report that Caroline Kennedy is being appointed U.S. ambassador to Japan may be enough to end previous speculation that Kennedy could have been the next ambassador to Canada.
A report on a Washington Post blog published on April 1 says Kennedy got the Japan post after her support for President Barack Obama during his 2008 campaign. It also noted that Kennedy’s office had yet to return calls to comment on the posting.
This latest Washington Post report follows one from Bloomberg in late February that also suggested Kennedy would be headed to Japan.
News of Kennedy going to Japan comes after speculative reports in the National Post, on Fox News and in Maclean’s that said Kennedy could be next in line to replace outgoing ambassador David Jacobson in Canada. Continue…

Caroline Kennedy ‘leading contender’ for next ambassador to Canada: report

David Jacobson will likely be replaced in coming months
Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of the late president John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, could be the next U.S. ambassador to Canada, according to reports.
Speculation that Kennedy could be among the candidates to get the post was reported by the National Post earlier this week. Now, Fox News reports an unnamed source saying Kennedy is a “leading contender.”
Kennedy has been a vocal Obama supporter who even said she would run for Clinton’s vacant Senate seat, which was also held by her uncle, Bobby Kennedy. She later withdrew that bid for “personal reasons.”
Current U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Jacobson will likely be replaced in the coming months as President Barack Obama beings his second term.
Whoever is chosen to replace Jacobson will have some high-profile policy items to deal with, notably the controversial Keystone XL pipeline project.

Baby boomers will fondly recall the photos of Caroline Kennedy with her father, and who can forget the heart-wrenching photo of her taken the day of JFK’s funeral? Kennedy is now thrust in the public eye for reasons unassociated with nostalgia or sweetness: she wants to become the next senator of New York. For the first time in her life, she is at the centre of a controversy, with questions swirling over her qualifications to fill Hillary Clinton’s seat. Welcome to the world of politics.
At first glance, the detractors have a point. She may have a magic name, but her credentials appear to be rather thin when compared with some less-famous pretenders. Her appearances in the media in recent days have done little to dissipate the doubts or the opposition. Her latest claim to fame has much to do with her pivotal support of Barack Obama’s candidacy. Of course, this did nothing to endear her to Clinton Democrats. My guess is that Governor David Patterson will select Caroline anyway.
